RISE Class
Each student will be scheduled in a RISE class with a teacher who teaches one of his/her core classes. This time provides teachers the opportunity to build strong relationships with students, check on students’ grades, and support students in navigating school. During the first quarter, this course will also provide students with the yearly opportunity to learn the RISE pillars and expectations. Teachers will also provide lessons based on skills to help students navigate school and become lifelong learners. In 6th grade, the focus of these lessons will be on AVID strategies including organization, note-taking, inquiry, reflecting on learning, and goal-setting. In 7th and 8th grade, students will learn the habits of the mind. The following webpage provides a detailed description of these character traits as they support lifelong learning, based on the book Learning and Leading with Habits of Mind (Costa & Kallick, 2008): http://www.ascd.org/publications/books/108008/chapters/Describing-the-Habits-of-Mind.aspx
The lessons below will occur Tuesday – Thursday on
“FLEX” days. Mondays and Fridays, “RISE” days, will be time for relationship
building, grade conferencing, organization, etc.
If you wish for your student to not participate in any of the specific RISE lessons, please contact Aaron McElhattan at 720-886-4402 or amcelhattan@cherrycreekschools.org.
