Dear Parents,

We are getting ready for our next set of conferences, which will be held February 21st from 4:00 to 8:00PM, and February 28th from 12:00-8:00PM. Fox Ridge Middle School is committed to developing a partnership with parents, and we rely on your support, perspective, and communication. One way in which we connect parents, students, and teachers is through academic conferences.

Academic conferences are designed to provide our students with the opportunity to review their data, revisit their academic goals, and create a plan for their continued growth and development. These conferences, therefore, require the participation and presence of the student and his/her parent(s) and caregiver(s). We want to ensure that conferences are a productive, positive experience for everyone involved: students, parents, and teachers. Therefore, we have decided to offer three conference format options. Please review each of the options and choose the one that best meets your family’s needs:

Option 1: Student-led Conference
This conference will be student-led; however, your child’s Academic Core Connection* will sit in on the conference to help facilitate, answer questions, and provide feedback from the team. These conferences will be 15 minutes in length. *

Option 2: Drop-In Conferences
These conferences will be informal in format. Parents may meet with teachers one-on-one in 5-7 minute blocks. These meetings take place during a specific time, but parents will meet with teachers as they are available (first-come, first-served basis). These conferences offer parents and students an opportunity to quickly touch-base with teachers; however, as these are not based on scheduled times, parents will not necessarily meet with all of the teachers on the team. Our electives teachers will also be available during drop-in conference times. Please feel free to stop by the library/media center to meet with these teachers.

Option 3: Home Conference with Follow-up
You may choose to conference with your child regarding his/her data and goals and progress, and then contact individual teachers in order to clarify points, ask questions, or provide further information. If you choose this option, you will want to make sure you review your child’s data and individual growth plan with him/her before you contact teachers. You may email teachers, schedule a phone conference, or set up short face-to-face conferences with specific teachers following your meeting with your child.

Naturally, some needs fall outside the scope of regularly scheduled conferences. You are always welcomed to contact your child’s teachers to discuss issues, check progress, ask questions, and schedule more focused conferences to address your child’s academic needs. You are also encouraged to contact our school counselors, Jessica Colson or Dawn Hare if you would like to discuss issues or concerns. They will be available during conferences as well.

Your child’s Academic Core Connection teacher will be contacting you either by phone or email in order to determine your preference. We really appreciate the time you commit to our school and your children, and we look forward our ongoing communication and connection. Thank you for your partnership and your support.
