Our Cornerstones

Respect:  At Fox Ridge, the core value of respect is more than just a belief; it is an enduring life value.  The definition of respect is “to have regard for or appreciation of a person’s worth; to honor, to esteem, to be courteous and be considerate to.”  At Fox Ridge, respect also includes the tolerance of differences.
In classrooms, evidence of this value could include:
accepting the right of others to hold different views to your own
           listening to others without interrupting
           obeying school rules
acknowledging the strengths and abilities of all students
affirming cultural diversity within the school community

Safety:  The core value of safety is an integral element at Fox Ridge.  It is the belief that all students have the right to be and feel safe while at school.  Safety is the freedom from the occurrence of harm, danger or loss.  At Fox Ridge, evidence of this value includes:
           treating others with respect
the ability to take risks without ridicule
a supportive and encouraging classroom environment

Kindness: Kindness is an essential value at Fox Ridge.  It defines how we strive to treat one another, both in our relationships as peers, as well as teachers and students.  Evidence of kindness includes:
           being considerate and helpful
using kind words, even when disagreeing
           being compassionate
           being supportive and encouraging
           tolerating differences among peers

Excellence:  Excellence at Fox Ridge means striving for the highest personal achievement in all aspects of schooling and individual and community action, work and life-long learning.  It is the commitment to high quality performance that produces outstanding results of lasting value. Excellence is believing in continuous improvement and never being satisfied with anything being less than it can be. It is quality as a way of life.  Evidence of this excellence includes:
           achieving personal best performance
           maintaining high learning expectations
           setting and meeting high standards
persisting through challenges and difficulties in learning

Integrity:  Integrity is the act of being consistently honest and trustworthy.  It is doing the right thing when no-one is watching. Integrity is the courage to stand up for one's beliefs, even when doing so is unpopular. It is established in a demonstrated consistency of character and is guided by an unchanging moral and ethical compass. Evidence of integrity includes:
doing what you say you will do
           being honest
           demonstrating trustworthiness

Responsibility:  The core value of responsibility is an essential character value.  It is the act of being accountable for your individual actions towards yourself, others and the environment.  Responsibility is the establishment of priorities.  It is to value the trust and confidence of others. It is the determination to keep a promise or make right some unintentional wrong, even when it is costly or inconvenient to do so. In classrooms, evidence of this value includes:
           self-discipline
           modeling expected behaviors
accountability for our actions (both good and bad)
